Clove oil has a spicy, sweet scent that for some will remind you of winter and winter holidays. It can stand alone or pairs well with citrus oils such as grapefruit, bergamot, lemon, and orange. A festive holiday blend can include clove along with peppermint and cinnamon. Its woody tones also make it a great complement for floral aromas such as ylang ylang.

  • The eugenol in clove oil can increase levels of serotonin in your body, which can be dangerous if you are taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Clove oil can also interact with anticoagulants. If you are taking any medication or have any health conditions, consult with your physician before using clove or any other essential oil.

Pure essential oils can damage your skin if applied directly. You should always dilute pure oils before application. It’s also important to avoid applying clove oil, even if it has been diluted, to sensitive areas such as around your eyes, ears, or nose. Some people are more sensitive to the compounds in essential oils than others and allergies may occur. Test the diluted oil on a small area of skin first before applying more widely. If you notice an adverse reaction, stop use immediately and seek medical care.

Keep out of reach of children.

If you are pregnant, nursing, or under the care of a physician, consult your health care provider before using clove or any other essential oil.

This essential oil is for external use only and should not be ingested.

Pure essential oils are flammable and should be stored in a cool, dry location away from any open flames or excess heat.
